Secret Santa with exclusions and printable cards

Assign gifts for 3–100 participants with no self-gifts, exclusions and no repeated last-year pairs. Local to your browser; the organizer can see all assignments.

A gift for everyone

Local draw for 3–100 people. The organizer can see all assignments; this is not a secret online room. Print, fold and hand out the cards in person.

Names may repeat: entry numbers distinguish people. Use these numbers in every rule below. Maximum 100 characters per name.

    Exclusions and last year’s assignments

One pair per line: giver number, recipient number. Directed blocks only that direction; mutual blocks both directions. Last-year pairs block the previous giver→recipient direction. Keep the same participant order as last year when reusing IDs.

Nothing is saved automatically. Save stores names, rules and the current assignments in this browser until you delete them. Anyone with access to this browser may read the saved project. Names do not enter network requests, analytics or URLs.

    Method, examples and privacy

A finite augmenting-path algorithm finds a perfect matching between givers and recipients. Self-gifts and every exclusion are removed first. Every successful result uses each giver and recipient exactly once. Candidate order uses Web Crypto, but valid matchings are not guaranteed equally likely.

If impossible, the tool shows a group of giver IDs with fewer available recipients than givers: an explicit conflict certificate, not an endless reroll. Remove or change exclusions before trying again.

    1. Three people without exclusions: 1→2, 2→3, 3→1 is valid. An odd participant count is allowed.
    2. With three people and directed exclusion 1→2, the cycle 1→3, 3→2, 2→1 is valid. The reverse direction 2→1 remains allowed.
    3. With three people and exclusions 1→2 plus 1→3, giver 1 has nobody available. The tool explains impossibility before issuing cards.

For print: cut around each bordered card, fold on the dashed line and keep the recipient half inward. Printing reveals every pair to the organizer. No private links, email delivery or accounts are provided.

What is secret santa with exclusions and printable cards

Each participant gives and receives exactly once. A finite bipartite matching algorithm excludes self-gifts, specified exclusions and past giver-to-recipient assignments. Impossibility is explained by a specific group with too few available recipients.

Names stay in your browser. This is a local in-person draw: the organizer sees all pairs. Print cards fold with the recipient inside; there are no private links or server rooms.

    How to use

Enter one participant per line. Set exclusions by entry number and optionally import last-year giver_id,recipient_id CSV using the same participant order. Assign gifts, check the result and print the cards. Save on this device only when you choose; Clear deletes the saved project.
